The Reverend Jason Lee
One early Keizer area minister still known world-wide is missionary Jason Lee. Born in the Canadian province of Quebec near the Vermont border, Reverend Lee worked much of his life to teach and bring the Gospel to Northwest Native Americans.

Methodist missionary Reverend Jason Lee worked tirelessly to educate and preach to Native Americans in the Oregon Territory. Reverend Lee's efforts have lasting significance today. For example, Jason Lee founded what is now known as Willamette University, the oldest university in the west.

Upon his death, Reverend Lee was buried near his Canadian birthplace. Decades later, a petition to return Jason Lee to Oregon was initiated. In 1906, the Reverend Lee's body was disinterred and ceremoniously reburied in Salem's Lee Cemetery.
